There was an old farmer. He lived in a village with his wife and three sons. His sons were grown up. But they had no good relation with one another. They always quarreled. So there was no peace in the house of the old farmer. The farmer was unhappy with them. He wanted to teach them a good lesson. So he thought a plan. One day he called all his sons. He asked them to bring five sticks and some rope. The sons brought the sticks and took them to their father. The old man told his eldest son to bind the sticks together. He bound them into a bundle. The old man told his sons to break the bundle. They tried one by one. They tried their best but failed. Then the old man told his sons to untie the bundle. He told each of his sons to take one stick. He told his sons to break the stick. Now they broke the sticks easily. Then the old man told his sons, “If you live together, nobody can harm you. But if you are separate anybody can harm you.” The Sons got the point and promised to follow their father’s advice. The old farmer became very happy and prayed to Allah for their success.
